Dear reader,
These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Snailpost mobile application and related services ("Snailpost", "we", "us", "our"), operated by the Snailpost team. By creating an account or using Snailpost, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app. Snailpost was previously published under the name "Dearly"; these Terms apply to the same app and service under its new name.
Snailpost is intended only for people aged 16 years or older. By using Snailpost you confirm that you are at least 16. If we learn that a user is under 16, we will remove the account. Some regions may require a higher minimum age; you are responsible for using Snailpost in line with the laws where you live.
Snailpost is a slow correspondence app. You write letters to other members that are delivered after a deliberate delay, the way real mail travels. Snailpost is for friendship and pen-pal style correspondence. It is not a dating service and must not be used to seek romantic or sexual contact.
You sign in with Apple, Google, or an email account. You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping access to it secure. You agree to provide accurate information, including a truthful birth date, and to keep it up to date.
You own the letters and content you create. By posting content you grant Snailpost a limited licence to store, transmit, and display it to the people you correspond with and to operate and moderate the service. Any content that sexualises or endangers minors is strictly forbidden. See our Child Safety Standards.
You agree NOT to use Snailpost to: harass, threaten, or bully anyone; share sexual, violent, hateful, or illegal content; spam, advertise, or solicit money; or share another person's private information without consent. You also agree not to misrepresent who or where you are. Specifically, the following are breaches of these Terms:
So that new members always have someone to write to, Snailpost may include a number of guide accounts and seed personas that are operated by Snailpost and may use automated tools, including AI, to help write replies to new members. Not every account on Snailpost is an independent third-party user. We work to clearly favour and surface real members, and these accounts may be reduced over time. Snailpost Plus is sold for app features and is never a guarantee that any particular account is a real person.
AI assistance is built into Snailpost: writing suggestions and topic ideas while you compose, and translation of letters you receive. When you use one of these features, the relevant text (your draft, or the letter being translated), together with pseudonymous context such as pen names, age, country, and interests, is transmitted to and processed on the servers of an external AI provider, which may be located outside your country. Your real name, email address, and account identifiers are never sent to the AI provider. You can adjust how much writing help you receive during setup and at any time.
Snailpost also uses automated screening, which may include AI, to check outgoing letters, bottles, and board posts for scams and other serious abuse before delivery. Screening is deliberately conservative: only content assessed with high confidence as seriously harmful is held, and if anything of yours is held you will be told in the app and can appeal to the Post Office desk, where a human reviews every appeal. Accounts that repeatedly send seriously harmful content may be suspended under section 8.
AI output can be imperfect. Suggestions are only suggestions and translations may contain errors; you remain responsible for the content you choose to send. Please do not include sensitive personal information (such as ID numbers, passwords, or financial details) in text you submit to an AI feature. Full details of what is and is not shared are in our Privacy Policy (section 5, "Our AI policy").
Snailpost offers optional paid features through the billing system of the app store you downloaded Snailpost from: Apple's App Store on iOS, or Google Play on Android. There are two kinds: a recurring subscription ("Snailpost Plus"), and one-time purchases of in-app items ("postage", such as stamp booklets). All prices, and exactly what each purchase includes, are shown in the app before you buy. Payment is charged to your App Store or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase. Purchases are tied to the store account and platform used to make them.
Subscription (Snailpost Plus). Snailpost Plus is an auto-renewing subscription offered on a monthly or a yearly plan. It unlocks advanced features inside the app — these currently include premium and express stamps, roses, and other enhancements to how your letters look and travel. The exact set of features included can change over time as the app changes; the current list, the billing period, the price, and any free-trial terms are always shown in the app before you purchase.
Your plan renews automatically for the same period and price unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your App Store or Google Play account settings; cancelling stops future charges and your benefits continue until the end of the period you have already paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
A subscription buys access to features; it does not buy exemption from the rules. If your account is suspended, banned, or otherwise restricted under section 8 for breaching these Terms or our community guidelines, your subscription benefits and any unused in-app items stop with it, and access may be revoked for the remainder of a period you have already paid for. No refund or pro-rata credit is given in that situation. This is deliberate: paying does not entitle anyone to impersonate people, fake a location, or make this a worse place to receive a letter.
One-time purchases (in-app items). Postage items, such as stamp booklets, are one-time, consumable purchases: they are added to your account when purchased and are used up as you spend them in the app. Some items you earn for free in the app never expire; items granted as part of a subscription or promotion may expire as described in the app. In-app items are a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use a feature inside Snailpost. They are not your property, have no monetary value, cannot be exchanged for cash, and cannot be transferred, sold, or gifted for money. Unused items are forfeited if your account is suspended, terminated, or deleted.
Refunds. Except where required by law, all purchases (subscriptions and one-time items) are final and non-refundable, and any refunds are handled under the policies of the store you purchased through (Apple or Google), not by us. Paid features are sold for what they do inside the app; buying anything is never a guarantee that any particular account is a real person (see section 5).
On iOS, where these Terms do not provide otherwise, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA) applies. You additionally acknowledge that these Terms are between you and Snailpost's operator, not Apple; that Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Snailpost; and that Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them.
You can report or block any member from their profile or a letter. We review reports and act on what we find. To report a serious safety concern you can also email us at snailpost.app@gmail.com.
Where you breach these Terms or our community guidelines, we may take any of the following steps, with or without prior notice, and choose the one we judge proportionate to what happened and whether it has happened before:
Serious breaches — including anything involving minors, credible threats, scams or fraud, impersonation, or falsified location — may result in immediate permanent removal at the first instance, without a warning and without a prior suspension. Where the law requires it, we report to the relevant authorities and cooperate with law enforcement.
If you believe an enforcement decision was wrong, you can appeal by writing to snailpost.app@gmail.com. A person reviews every appeal. We will restore an account where we got it wrong.
You may stop using Snailpost and delete your account at any time from within the app, or via our account deletion page. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or to protect the community.
Snailpost is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that any correspondence, match, or feature will be available, uninterrupted, or error-free. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Snailpost and its operator are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and may notify you in the app. Continuing to use Snailpost after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
